The Power of Purple: A tribute to PRINCE

This post is devoted to the artist known as Prince.

Growing up in California, Prince wasn't really a big deal amongst my friend group, I was more into the Red Hot Chili Peppers scene when it came to my formative growing up years. It wasn't until I moved to Minnesota in 2005 that I discovered Prince. It's only fitting how obsessed the state of MN is with Prince, since this was his home and he truly did hold this state near and dear to his heart. I remember getting into the car with a friend of mine, he turned on When Doves Cry and at that moment, something truly moved me. As a musician, I appreciated what I was hearing from a musical position, but there was something deeper and more meaningful there for sure.

One year ago today, the world shook with the news of Prince's passing. It's only natural that artists such as he hold a special place in our hearts. It's difficult to put a finger on it sometimes, but as I sat down to write this post, I realized why he in particular had such an affect on me. What I realized is this: Prince embodied uniqueness in the purest form; not only in his wildly elaborate costumes or the way he presented himself, but in his lyrical and musical genius and his ability to utterly and completely captivate anyone he came into contact with.

Thank you, Prince for all the ways you've continued to inspire us, even after your passing.

Rest in Peace, Prince. Rest in Peace.

Outfit Details:

The color Purple symbolizes many things, but the most impactful to me is its signification of ambition, wisdom and creativity. Being that Prince's defining color was Purple, its only fitting that I round up some purple picks for you. Enjoy!

And not to get too cliche here but since Purple Rain is my all time favorite tune, I'll leave you with a quote from these very special lyrics. Something about the emotion this song evokes is just so mesmerizing; it all at once makes me full of sadness, but also full of hope and peace.

PURPLE RAIN: I never meant to cause you any sorrow, I never meant to cause you any pain, I only wanted to one time to see you laughing, I only wanted to see you, Laughing in the purple rain - Prince
